Support-Class Necessity I: Convexity, Endpoint Antipodes, and Balanced Segment Allocation
Round 03 compressed the problem to 'does the optimum lie in the support-tangent class?'; this paper attacks that necessity directly. Finite-M convexity and the endpoint-strip reduction need no new proof and are imported from Adhikari–Pitman 1989 (two external gates); inside the strip the endpoint-antipode identity is automatic for a convex upper chain; the interior support-slack lemma shows interior side edges must be tangent to the unit circle about the opposite endpoint; and in the reduced support-tangent class the one-side reduced length is strictly jointly convex in (q, a), so the left and right segment budgets must be as balanced as possible (symmetric for even n, an asymmetric mirror pair for odd n). The remaining main gates are boundary saturation and cell-boundary exclusion.
The canonical R04: two external gates are imported from Adhikari–Pitman 1989, and the endpoint-antipode lemma, the interior support-slack lemma and the balanced-allocation theorem are derived inside the reduced support-tangent class; the paper explicitly does not claim that support-class necessity is fully proved, that the top plateau is excluded, or that the global broadest polygonal arc for n ≥ 4 is solved.
Two R04 documents share the document code WSFC-R04-v0.1; this page is the canonical one, and the 'Finite Convexity and Obstacle Reduction' on the previous page is the earlier draft, now superseded. The decision comes from the recovery bundle of 2026-10-07 and was checked independently here: the BSP-A/B/C vocabulary that R05 uses appears only in this paper. The load-bearing conclusions rest on Adhikari–Pitman 1989 and the reduced support-tangent class; there is no proof assistant or independent review, and neither the top plateau nor the support-order cell boundaries have been excluded.
